About Me

Painting allows me to take in more fully, the moments that take my breath away!  It is an extension of myself, an expression of my soul.

Hi there, my name is Katrina McMinds, and I'm a Plein Air artist living outside of Charlottesville, Virginia.  Gouache is my medium of choice with it's fast drying qualities and matte appearance.  I prefer to paint outside, on location, fully engrossed in my subject; battling the elements, chasing the light...  When I look at one of my paintings, I can recall the very sights, sounds, feelings, and emotions that I was experiencing with every brush stroke.  It is my desire to share these moments with my viewers.

Achievements:

First place in the 2022 Abingdon, VA Plein Air Festival.

Honorable Mention in the 2023 Abingdon, VA Plein Air Festival.

First place in the November 2023 Small Works show at the Richmond Art Works Gallery. 

Second Place in the 2024 Paint Great Falls Quick Paint competition.
